Enlarge input boxes in the admin section

Postby Jiff » Wed Jul 04, 2012 12:14 am

Hi forumers,

I've got very large META descriptions & keywords, so I'd like to enlarge their input boxes (if possible), in order to see all my text in a glance. The best would be they follow the browser width and always maximize to its width.

Do you know how and where I could do that?

Probably you are using system_metaForPages bladepack.
You can find system_metaForPages.php file there, and a code:

Code: Select all
// blade - output form to input META DATA //
function metaDataOutput(&$formOutput) {
$formOutput=<<<TET
        <table width='98%' border='0'>
          <tr>
            <td width='20%'>META Description</td>
            <td><input type='text' value='' name='metades'></td>
          </tr>
          <tr>
            <td width='20%'>META Keywords</td>
            <td><input type='text' value='' name='metakey'></td>
          </tr>
        </table>
TET;
}
// end /////////////////////////////////////

You are interested in this form this line:
<td><input type='text' value='' name='metades'></td>
It's probably too short for you.

You can change this, like in html form ;-)
Theory: http://www.echoecho.com/htmlforms05.htm

So, you can change this line
<td><input type='text' value='' name='metades'></td>
on new one:
<td><input size='80' type='text' value='' name='metades'></td>
when this size parameter is about how many characters you want in the line.

The same is with a line <td><input type='text' value='' name='metakey'></td>
and you can change this on new one:
<td><input size='80' type='text' value='' name='metakey'></td>

Try to experiment with lenght size='60' and size='80' and size='100' ;-)

If you want more, you must have an experiment with textarea - theory about: http://www.echoecho.com/htmlforms08.htm

But you should know, that meta for pages are not important for SEO now - it's only to use as a description field of your site, when someone is using for example google, to find your site, so sometimes your site is on the list with this metadescription.

So, the next step should be to rewrite this bladepack to collecting metatags, for many gadgets on the site, for example for creating many kinds of tagclouds ;-) (that are not important for SEO too ;-)

Whoops, sorry to be late, apparently I forgot to check the notify box.

Yes, I finally figured this (strange, I would have thought that "width" could work too but no), and now I've got niiice (very) large input & edit zones:)

Thanks anyway.
